Thinking About Homeschooling?

For parents with little children who are just starting to think about homeschooling in the future:

So far as I am concerned, homeschooling is the best way you can love your child.
Let him remain part your world and the whole world at large - do not lock him away inside in a place where many parents put their kids in huge groups with strangers so that they can do other things during the day. [Shudder.]
Kids learn fast, best and to apply what they know when it is real, relates to their lives, and isn't forced. You probably know that goes for whatever you teach your child now. It isn't any different with school subjects. Mostly the primary grades are just a continuance and expansion of what you are doing. You'll teach your son to count to five or ten before he ever hits kindergarten, I'll bet. read to your child and help him and he'll learn faster and better than in any school program. You just have to spend some time preparing to keep ahead of him - and keep yourself open to learning, in order to homeschool. Actually it is great fun to clarify and use your own education!

For parents with older children who are wondering how it will all turn out in the end:

My kids are almost grown - the youngest is nearly 15 years old and we have been homeschooling since 1st grade ended. She is spreading her own wings this year - working, doing pottery, taking some classes at the college. She's relaxed and comfortable with herself, and finding her way in the world. I wish the same for all of you - and more -- your children on the road to being able to survive independently, contributing their abilities to your family's well-being, and making their dreams come true.....

More thoughts later.
